GOD’S ECONOMY OF GRACE (BY PTR. JUN YU – 3RD SERVICE)
▪ Dispensation of Grace (Ephesians 3:2)
▪ Dispensation (Greek: oikonomia) = dispensation, stewardship, the administration of household affairs,
administration of other’s property.
▪ Economy: The system of production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services in a society.
▪ Dispensation when applied to grace is more than just “period of time”.
▪ The world’s economy operates by:
1. Supply and demand.
2. Buying and selling.
3. Working and earning.
4. Lending and borrowing.
▪ Economy of Grace:
1. Production: All the production took place at the cross. Jesus Christ did all the work, and He
was the One who paid the price.
a. Supply and demand – What the law demanded, Jesus supplied.
b. Buying and selling – Jesus bought us back. Tayo ang binili ng ating Panginoon. Hindi
natin Siya kayang bilhin.
c. Working and earning – Jesus did all the work and earned our salvation.
d. Lending and borrowing – Si Kristo ang nagbayad ng ating utang na hindi natin kayang
bayaran.
2. Distribution: The distribution (koinonia) and communication of what was produced at the
cross (finished work) is the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
a. He is the Spirit of grace. (1 Peter 5:10-11)
3. Consumption: We are not just end-consumers of the finished work but communicators and
distributors of God’s grace in partnership with the Holy Spirit.
▪ 1 Timothy 6:17-18 – God is not against you becoming rich. He wants you to prosper. But never trust in
riches – it is uncertain. Instead, trust in the living God who is the only certainty in your life.
▪ He gives us richly all things to enjoy!
▪ That we do good, rich in good works. Ready to distribute/give. Willing to communicate/share.
▪ In God’s economy, everything was done at the cross.
▪ We freely receive and we freely give. (Matthew 10:8)
▪ Everything that we receive from God, we receive freely.
▪ Every good and perfect gift comes from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom
there is no variation or shadow of turning. (James 1:17)
▪ Philippians 4:15 – Only the Philippians shared with Paul concerning giving and receiving.
▪ The first born-again in Europe was Lydia, a businesswoman.
▪ Some Greek words:
1. Communicate (Greek: koinonia) = fellowship; partnership; sharing with; communion;
communication; distribution
2. Concerning (Greek: logos) = word; account; speech; divine expression
a. Jesus was the expressed image of God, His divine expression.
3. Giving (Greek: dosis) =a giving, a gift
▪ James 1:16-17 – Whatever we give/share, galing din sa ating Ama bilang regalo.
▪ Gift/dosis – 1) What we receive from God; 2) What we share with others.
▪ Two primary ways to divinely express the Gospel of Christ:
1. Through preaching and teaching (Romans 1:15-16)
2. Through giving of finances (Philippians 1:5-6) – your financial giving can be a divine expression
of the gospel of Christ. We need to be led by the Spirit of God in our giving.
▪ Philippians 4:16-18 – The only fruit that
can abound as a result of the divine
expression of the gospel will be people
that will be brought to the Kingdom of
God.
▪ Heavenly Bank Account –
In our joint heavenly bank account with
Jesus Christ, We don’t need to make
deposits, only withdrawals. The Father
deposited all that Jesus Christ worked for
and paid for at the cross in Jesus’
heavenly bank account. (Hebrews 1: 1-4;
Romans 8:16-17)
In God’s Economy of Grace,
all the production took place at the cross.
What the law demanded, Jesus supplied.
He bought us back.
He did all the work and earned our salvation.
He paid the debt that we cannot pay.
The distribution (koinonia) and communication
of what was produced at the cross (finished work)
is the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of grace.
We are not just end-consumers of the finished work
but communicators and distributors of God’s grace
in partnership with the Holy Spirit.
▪ Whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. (John 16:23)
▪ Romans 1:15-16 – As much revelation of the gospel that we receive, we are ready to divinely express
the gospel of Christ.
▪ Philippians 1:5-6 – Giving is a good work that God begun in you. Until the day of Jesus Christ, may
ibibigay pa rin tayo because we cannot exhaust the overflowing grace of God.
