GOD OUR FATHER

Romans 1:1-7

  • Paul was called and separated by God.
  • It was God who promised.
  • His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord – God’s love for us is the same as His love for His Son, Jesus.
  • We have received grace.
  • Declare: “I’m a saint.” – as a believer of Jesus Christ.
  • Grace and peace to you, not wrath.

1. God has a plan for us.

  • Declare: “God has a plan for me.”
  • Like Paul, we are also called – called out ones and separated.
  • Ekklesia – church; called out ones.
  • Separated – holy. You were made holy by God. Only God can make you holy.
  • We are called and separated for the purposes of God.
  • These are all part of the great plan of God’s salvation for us through His Son, Jesus.
  • We are chosen for the purpose of making us holy and blameless.
  • We can call God our Abba, Father because Jesus came into the flesh and paid for our sins at the cross of Calvary. When we believed in Jesus, we became children of God.
  • When we heard the Word (sperma/seed), we got born again or born of God.
  • Jeremiah 29:11 – this is a good verse; we know God has a plan for us. But contextually, this was spoken to the elders (Israelites) during the time of Jeremiah who were taken captive and brought to Babylon, not us.
  • But do not be sad! We can be assured that God’s plan for us is always good! And we are in the greatest plan of God and that is the great plan of salvation!
  • We have been made God’s own children – John 1:12-13. We are now born of God since we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Declare: “I am born of God.”
  • If you never had a father figure or experienced absentee fathers, do not worry. Our real, true to life father is none other than God our Heavenly Father and He has a great plan for you.
  • For earthly fathers – imitate God as a good Father. (Eph. 5:1) He is the best model. Be inspired by Him.
  • Fathers, lead your family with a plan.
    • Have a plan. Maganda una may plano.
    • It is good when you have a plan for your family. Let the family enjoy your dreams together. It leads the family. It is exciting when fathers have a plan.
    • You should know your plan. Pinag-pray, pinag-isipan, inayos.
    • Enjoy your plans with your family.
    • You will enjoy the fulfillments of your dreams with the family. Live your dreams with your family. Making good memories together. Accomplishing things together.

2. God our Father is a promise keeper.

  • All His promises are fulfilled in Christ.
  • 2 Corinthians 6:18 – This is God’s promise, and it is the truth. Already fulfilled when we believed in the Lord Jesus.
  • Kung may kailangan ka, go to the Father. He is almighty, all-powerful.
  • Declare: “My Father God is almighty God.”
  • We are children of God and we received the Spirit of the Son that’s why we can call Him Abba, Father.
  • We are not slaves but children of God.
  • A child acts differently than a servant.
  • You can ask boldly without shame.
  • Heredero/heredera ka. You are an heir!
  • Good reminder for fathers: Inside all of us is a Promise Keeper by His own Spirit. Be reminded, be confident that you can be good with your promises.
  • Just as he kept His promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and to all the saints in the Bible, ganun din sa atin lahat.
  • When we fail to fulfill our promises, our children get hurt and they tend not to believe the promises of God. Kaya bawi-bawi din, mga tatay when you can, because we want our children to trust us and help them to trust our Father God.
  • Fathers also want their kids to fulfill their will. Accomplish things together. When you assign your kids to do things, they become responsible, and they feel accomplished too when they are able to do things you asked them to. Just like Jesus – He came to do the will of the Father. (John 6:38)

3. God declares us His children.

  • He is not ashamed of us. He calls us His own. He will never disown us.
  • He will never ever blot out our names in the Book of Life.
  • John 17:9-10 – God and Jesus declared us theirs. Nothing can separate us from their love.
  • Application: Fathers, declare words of assurance/security to your children.
  • Jesus declared these words because He is not ashamed of us.
  • Tell your child: “Anak, mahal kita.” It is so important to assure them in spite of their failures or mistakes. Like our Father who forgives us and does not condemn us.
  • Praise God, He is our Father who declared and demonstrated His love for us through Jesus!
  • God loved us as much as He loves Jesus! Jesus spoke His love for us – John 17:23.

4. Grace and Peace is given to us by our Father.

  • Hindi takot. Mga tatay, huwag takutin ang mga anak.
  • Jesus was well loved by God kahit wala pa Siyang miracles. (Matthew 3:17)
  • Love your children simply because they are your children.
  • Two kinds of wrong parenting:
    • Permissive – Hinahayaan mo lang na walang disiplina.
    • Abusive – verbal and physical abuse.
  • Two kinds of Biblical parenting:
    • With Grace and Peace
    • With Training
  • Train them according to the Word of God.
  • May tamang palo pero walang tamang bugbog.
  • Application – grace and peace is what we received so it is also what we give, not wrath and fear.
  • Lakipan mo ng biyaya ng Diyos ang pagdidisiplina.
  • Do not be strict, do not strangle them in the process. Be open to their concerns. Kailangan kalma. Train yourself first.
  • Ex. The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-24)
  • Once a child of God, always a child of God.
