THE DAY OF THE LORD

2 Peter 3:1-13

  • Verse 1: Declare: “I have a pure mind.”
  • Verse 2: Mindful – your mind is full of the words of the prophets – a more sure word based on scriptures (Dapat alam mo!); also of the apostles.
  • Verse 3: Scoffers – mga nangungutya. (Ex. “Akala ko ba dadating ang Diyos? Ang tagal-tagal na pero wala pa!”; Universalists – hindi na raw babalik si Jesus kasi dumating na raw Siya.)
  • Verse 5: They intentionally forget that the world was created by the Word of God.
  • The Word preserves us today.
  • Verse 7: The heavens and the earth are now preserved by the same Word.
  • Verse 8: Don’t forget that 1 day = 1000 years and 1000 years = 1 day to God.
  • Verse 9: He is longsuffering towards us.
  • God will use all means so a person can hear the gospel, pero kung tatanggihan nila, hindi namimilit ang Diyos.
  • Verse 10: The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; everything will melt with fervent heat.
  • Verse 11: As far as God is concerned, you are already in holy conduct and godliness because we are in Christ.
  • Verse 12: The day of the Lord is also the day of God because Jesus is God.
  • Verse 13: We look for new heavens and new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Key Points

  • The day of the Lord was spoken of by the prophets and is in the scripture. A more sure word of Scripture is what we have.
  • The day of the Lord was also spoken by the disciples.
  • There are 90 verses in the Bible from Matthew to Revelation about the Day of the Lord, second coming, and rapture.
  • The Lord’s day = a thousand years to us.
  • The Lord’s day is not delayed. It will surely come. The reason why it has not yet happened is because the Lord is patient or long suffering with us.
  • God does not force anyone. He is a God of love and love cannot be forced. Realize how much He loves you and wants to save you.
  • The Lord’s day will come like a thief in the night for others, not for us, believers. (1 Thessalonians 5:2-4)

1 Thessalonians 5:4-7, 8-10

  • Verse 6: Be sober – be focused on Jesus.
  • Verse 8: Faith and love will protect you.
  • Verse 9: God did not appoint us to wrath but to obtain salvation.
  • Jesus Christ is the only name given to man under heaven by which we must be saved.
  • Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him.

How Should We Be?

  • Since the Lord’s day is to come, what manner of people should we be?
  • In holy conduct and godliness, (you are in holiness and good conduct already because you are in Christ) looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God.

FCI Faith Group Program May 19, 2024

  • Declare: “I am in Christ.”
  • How should we be?

  • Set your mind on things above where Christ is.
  • Look forward to the new heavens and new earth.

2. Keep sharing the gospel.

  • Continue sharing the good news.
  • This is good works kasi naligtas na tayo.
  • We do it because of the compassion we have for others.
  • Our works cannot save us, only the finished work of Jesus can.
  • It hastens the day of the Lord – the more we share, the more people will be saved.

3. We look forward to it.

  • Hindi nakakatakot ang pagdating ng Panginoon.
  • We look forward to the day of the Lord!
  • We are eager and ready because we are believers.
  • The Parable of the 10 Virgins: It talks about Jews. Hindi tayo Hudyo, hindi tayo ‘yun, hindi tayo maiiwan!
  • We are the Bride of Jesus!
  • He will not lose even one of us.
  • The Holy Spirit is in us and He will not leave us.
  • So keep on sharing to your family, loved ones, and friends.
  • Ikakasal ka, you are the Bride of Christ!
  • While the Great Tribulation is happening, we are enjoying our wedding feast.
  • We will meet the Lord in the air – 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18.
  • Comfort one another with these words.
  • Colossians 3:4 – When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
