BOOK OF ROMANS (PART 5) – TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS

  • Romans 3:21-23 – True righteousness is through faith in Christ (pananampalataya kay Kristo).
  • Romans 3:24-26 – We, who have faith in Jesus, are justified freely.
This is the New Covenant. A foreshadowing in the Old Testament is found in the story of Noah’s ark.
  • The word Lord in the account of Noah means Yahweh. Mabuti at matuwid si Yahweh.
  • Noah preached for 100 years, and yet no one believed him. The world back then was filled with violence (hamas). God showed He is righteous (matuwid).
  • Only believe in Christ. Faith in Christ and you have received true righteousness.
  • Romans 3:27-28 – Man is justified by faith. By faith alone, in Christ alone.
    • Faith in Christ is the key!
    • Remember that He has forgiven you at the cross.
  • Isaiah 64:6 – We are like an unclean thing. All our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.
Tayo ay nilinis na ng Kanyang dugo, and He prepared good works for us that we should walk in them.
  • Religion created a system to reach God (man doing things to reach out to God).
    • But man can never reach out to God. God reached out to us. He sent His Son, Jesus.
    • Religion is useless. The only religion that God considers is taking care of the orphans and widows.
    • Huwag matakot sa day of judgment. May nagbayad na!
  • People tried to kill Jesus, but in truth, Jesus gave up His Spirit. He paid the debt that we should be paying.
  • Matthew 7:21-23 – Maraming Christians ang takot dito. These verses mean that these people used the wrong password to enter the kingdom of heaven:
    • Ginamit nila ang mabubuti nilang gawa.
    • The will of the Father is in John 3:16 – whosoever believes in Him, Jesus, whom God sent.
  • You are now called: Saint, child of God, part of the church and part of the Body of Christ, believer, the righteousness of God.
  • Salvation is given to all. For all people. Not for angels. But for all people.
  • Anong gagawin sa law? Romans 3:30-31 – Old or New Testament man yan, by faith lahat.
    • We are for the law, we stand by it. We uphold it.
    • The law is holy, good, and perfect – na hindi natin kayang gawin. The law does not save us. But shows us we are fallen. We are not judged by the law.
  • The law is like a mirror – it can show you your flaws pero hindi nito kayang linisin ang dumi sa mukha mo. It points us to Jesus, to the One who can save us.
    • 10 commandments – Exodus 20:3-4, 7-8, 12-17.
    • Salamat sa ating mabuting Diyos! Wala na tayo sa ilalim ng batas. Inilagay tayo sa ilalim ng biyaya.
      • And by grace through faith in Christ, you are saved!
    • The law is a tutor to show us our fallen state that will lead us to Jesus.
    • But you, who believe in Jesus, do not use the law anymore. You have the Holy Spirit in you. You can use it for unbelievers. It is one way of showing them that they cannot be saved by their own works or obeying the law. Your gauge now for right or wrong is the Holy Spirit in you.
    • Our law is to love one another. The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
  • Pag-ibig ang meron tayo which is more powerful than the law.
    • Declare: “I am dead to the law.”
  • In Christ Jesus, we don’t need the law.
That is why we are dead to the law.
  • When did you die to the law? When you believed in Jesus. You died to the law through the body of Christ. We are free from the law.
    • We are dead to the law. We are now under grace.
    • Our identity is not in our work or ability to obey the law, our identity is in Christ.

True righteousness is through faith in Christ (pananampalataya kay Kristo).

  • Faith in Christ is the key!

    • And by grace through faith in Christ, you are saved!

Our salvation is dependent solely on what Jesus Christ did for us at the cross. The finished work at the cross.

  • Notes on self-righteousness (false righteousness):
    • Self-righteousness is the worst thinking to ever affect the human race.
    • Self-righteousness will keep you from grace and lock you out of the kingdom.
    • Self-righteousness is trusting in your own righteousness.
    • From Paul Ellis: Self-righteousness is believing there are things you can do to make yourself right with God.
    • Self-righteousness is sometimes manifested in feelings of superiority towards others. “I am right, you are wrong. My way is better than your way.”
    • But self-righteousness can also be reflected in:
      • a low sense of self-worth (“God can’t possibly love me”)
      • an inflated sense of self-importance (“I need to do more for God”)
      • outright unbelief (“I am beyond the reach of His grace”).
  • The defining ingredient of self-righteousness is that you are providing your own standard of righteousness.
  • True righteousness comes from trusting in Jesus, the Righteous One (not by doing the law).
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 – For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
